Presentation Overview

Ethical Collaboration in NDBI: Partnering with Caregivers and Interdisciplinary Teams as RBTs

Naturalistic Developmental Behavioral Interventions (NDBI) rely heavily on collaboration among behavior technicians, caregivers, and interdisciplinary professionals to support skill development in young children. Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) practitioners frequently implement interventions in natural environments such as homes, schools, and community settings, where effective partnerships with caregivers and team members are essential for maintaining fidelity and promoting the generalization of skills. RBTs may encounter opportunities to build and refine collaboration skills, including communication, role clarity, and navigating differing perspectives. This session will examine the ethical and professional responsibilities of RBTs when collaborating with caregivers and interdisciplinary providers within Naturalistic Developmental Behavioral Interventions (NDBI) service delivery. Participants will review expectations related to professional conduct, scope of practice, and effective communication, guided by standards from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board. Practical strategies will be presented to support relationship-building, reinforce caregiver participation, and maintain productive partnerships with professionals from other disciplines. Through applied examples, attendees will explore common collaboration scenarios and identify strategies that support ethical, family-centered care while remaining within the RBT role. Participants will leave with practical tools to strengthen collaborative partnerships and support the effective implementation of NDBIs.
