Presentation Overview

Neurodiversity-affirming ABA Procedures in the Naturalistic Setting

This professional development session is designed to support Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) in implementing common Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) procedures through a neurodiversityaffirming and relationshipcentered lens within Naturalistic Developmental Behavioral Intervention (NDBI) sessions. The presenter will describe a working understanding of neurodiversity-affirming ABA in practice, with a focus on how everyday procedures and protocols can be implemented in ways that prioritize engagement, autonomy, and social validity. Participants will learn to identify individualized cues of assent and assent withdrawal and use this information to guide trial by trial prompting decisions in real time. In addition, the session will introduce a clinical decision making framework to support RBTs in making thoughtful, in-the-moment judgments about reinforcement, boundary setting, and the use of kind extinction or temporary limits on reinforcement.

Learning Objectives

What you'll learn...after completing this presentation, participants will be able to
