Presentation Overview

Use of Shared Control Strategies for Increasing Trial Count During NDBI Teaching Sessions

Naturalistic Developmental Behavioral Interventions (NDBI) rely on the combination of the sciences of applied behavior analysis and child development. In NDBI, treatment is embedded within natural settings, play-based activities, and daily routines, but maintains clear reliance on behavioral teaching trials as one mechanism of skills acquisition. Behavior technicians are most often responsible for NDBI implementation and creating opportunities for embedded teaching trials is a core skill these technicians must have. This 30-minute Professional Development Unit (PDU) will focus on shared control strategies inherent in many NDBIs and how they can be leveraged to increase trial count to ensure high treatment fidelity when working with children with autism spectrum disorder.

Learning Objectives

What you'll learn...after completing this presentation, participants will be able to

  • Define treatment fidelity as being a combination of both adherence and dose (i.e., trial count in this case).

  • Identify 3 shared control strategies used in ND

  • Give 3 teaching examples of how shared control strategies can be used to increase trial coun
